A Pathway Through The Wilderness

Bruneau River: A Pathway Through The Wilderness

Choose to live an abundant life filled with joy, adventure, passion, and purpose. Don't let the past or anyone else define who you are. The past is finished; it's over. Move forward and ask God for help. He is doing a new thing, making a new way through the wilderness.

I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland. - Isaiah 43:19
There's a certain song that always comes to my mind when I think of Sunday School, Peace Like A River. One more that is often sung around Thanksgiving is, Over The River and Through The Woods. I'm sure there are so many more tunes you can recall. The main point being taken here must be a perspective of refreshing one's soul. We must remain hopeful and not let anyone take away our hope.

My husband and I enjoyed sharing our musical gifts with the children at our local church so long ago. One of the popular songs we did with cools words like, 'Waves of mercy, waves of grace,' is called Every Move I Make.

“I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion."

Exodus 33:18-19

Kindergarten Music: Old MacDonald Had a Farm

Old MacDonald Had a Farm

One of my sweet grandsons received a play barn with animal toy set. He spends hours with it, pretending to feed and ride the animals. We all chuckle as we hear him make animal sounds. His adorable farmer's voice reminds me of a famous nursery song we all have come to love... Old Mac Donald Had a Farm! Here's a song you may want to sing in your classroom to this familiar tune but with different words.

Shake Your Hand

F                          Bb              F
He would like to shake your hand,
               C7        F
And say hello to you.
                            Bb             F
He will tell you his name is Kelly,
               C7                     F
Now tell him your name too.

(Child says name.)

Hello, Susie; hello, Susie: hello, hello, Susie.
                             Bb             F
He would like to shake your hand.

(Shake hands)

                C7        F
And say hello to you.

Substitute the names of your children for the names Kelly and Susie. Continue singing the song until each child has had a chance to shake someone's hand.

I recommend Driving my Tractor for preschool/kindergarten libraries and home library, too. Here's a review from School Library Journal:

"A farmer drives his tractor down a bumpy road through various seasons, gradually loading one cow, two donkeys, three pigs, four sheep, and five chickens onto his trailer... A jolly read-aloud, and the accompanying CD with a jazzy version adds to the charm, with both an instrumental track and SteveSongs (of PBS fame) singing the text."
Happy Reading!

Lois Ehlert: Lots Of Spots

This month's Virtual Book Club for Kids author is Lois Ehlert.

chicken art

I chose Lots of Spots by Lois Ehlert for participation in the Vitual Book Club for Kids. It's a great picture book for preschoolers. My grandchildren loved looking at spots on fish, toads, turtles, deer, tigers and especially birds.

children reading picture book

I went over to their house to do arts and crafts together. I sat down with the four year olds and we had a grand old time painting the paper plates and adding raffia for the nest. Next came the foam chickens to trace and cut out. We glued the eyes down and we were ready to make the spots for the chickens!

But then the little one grabbed a crayon and scribbled on the TV. Good Lord, we're off to a great start!

book and art work

About The Author:

Lois Ehlert has been writing and illustrating books for young readers for more than thirty years. Her celebrated picture books include Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr and John Archambault and her own Boo to You!, Leaf Man, and Waiting for Wings. She lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

About The Book:

Spots and stripes, on Earth's creatures, give each animal unique features. Spots splotch a tummy, dot a furry chest, decorate a neck or a feathered breast. Stripes mark wings and beautify beaks, run down legs in curvy streaks. So turn these pages; take a closer look. You'll spot LOTS OF SPOTS in this funny book!

Bach Classical Musician

For teaching Kindergarten Music and Piano Lessons, when we study a Classical composer, Like Bach, kids remember his songs in a fun way when we nickname him Chicken Bach (with all due respect.)

Happy Reading,

Blue Monday: The Pacific Ocean

Paddle Board, West Coast - Pacific Ocean
I hope you will stop by Blue Monday for more wonderful photos of the color Blue.
Lifeguard Truck - Oceanside Harbor
Yellow is a happy color and you'll find lots more of this color at Mellow Yellow Monday

Each week I try to incorporate a few of my photos along with books that I am reading to my grandchildren. We seem to have gathered quite a few board books and picture books along the way for our personal, home library. Not to mention visiting our local library once a week, provides lots of reading material for our family.

We've had some lovely weather lately, so we always enjoy a walk along the harbor and my camera always goes with me. I was fortunate to see this lone paddle boarder surrounded by the deep blue sea, along with a community service truck ready to rescue, just in case.

Raindrops, Raincoats and Love

Fancy Outfit for my Granddaughter: Mellow Yellow Monday
We have heard from family from the East Coast, Midwest and the Bay area that the weather has changed and rain has arrived. I'm thinking this darling outfit could become a fancy raincoat!

Well, at the beginning of my week, I like to get organized and take a look at groups or categories of books, especially children's books that are in my personal library. Having 3 grandsons and a sweet granddaughter, I'm continually shifting and changing groupings by age and categories. Mostly, I have picture books and board books. What's in your home or school library?

About Adoption.

Love between a parent and a child.

Makes me cry!

Lively rhyme and engaging illustrations.
For ages 9-12
I love all the books I have listed here. Have you read any of them? The last one is about:

"This is the story of a shy young man who was given the very first love flute, long ago, by the birds and animals.'' When he plays the instrument, the music speaks to the heart of the special girl and tells her more plainly than words that he loves her.
