The Rainbow Lorikeet, (Trichoglossus haematodus) is a species of Australasian parrot found in Australia, eastern Indonesia (Maluku and Western New Guinea), Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. In Australia, it is common along the eastern seaboard, from Queensland to South Australia and northwest Tasmania. Its habitat is rainforest, coastal bush and woodland areas. These colorful parrots feed on nectar of various blossoms and soft fruits, preferably berries. Here at the San Diego Safari Park my family loved feeding the Rainbow Lorikeet. You can purchase a cup of nectar and experience their brush-like tongue from these very social birds. For more information, visit Lorikeet Landing. The photos of these very friendly birds are for Blue Monday.

We came home with so many fond memories and then sat down to enjoy some crab salad and dragon fruit salad with orange persimmons from our fruit orchard. I love this time of year where we continue to eat from the abundance of the land. Photos for Mandarin Orange Monday. I think the plant is Mock Orange Blossoms, not really sure but they are pretty with the elongated shape.
