I Wish I Were a Pilot

"Gliders, sail planes, they're wonderful flying machines. It's the closest you can come to being a bird." -- Neil Armstrong

My grandson and I were out in the yard, and it was one of those clear, sunny days. It was exciting for Ryan to see and hear so many planes that day. I ran inside the house, grabbed my camera and quickly took a few shots with my Nikon D200. Do you remember dreaming of flying as a kid? Do you like to fly in an airplane and use those frequent flyer miles?!

"Nothing gives me as much pleasure as traveling. I love getting on trains and boats and planes." -- Alan Rickman

My daughter was working on the film, Bottle Shock in Napa and she had the opportunity to meet Alan Rickman... an amazing actor. Perhaps you know him from Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Alan Rickman plays Steven Spurrier, a British man living in Paris who owns a small wine shop known as the Academie du Vin. It's 1976, and Jim Barrett (Bill Pullman) is struggling to create the perfect chardonnay at Chateau Montelena, his vineyard. Have you seen this one?

Crafts with Airplanes

So, after a long day with crafts and stories about airplanes, what fun... Well, we stepped outside to see the sunset because the day got in the 80s here in SoCal and this is what we saw!

  4. I still fly but not as much as before. It is just so much of hassle now and the fares so expensive.

  5. I love to gather up those frequent flyer miles so I can go see my grandkids who are in Virginia on the opposite coast! My husband, both of his parents, all of his uncles and three of his brothers are all pilots. Flying is in the blood on his side of the family. I bought my grandson "I Wish I Were A Pilot" last summer and it is his very favorite book! When we were there over Thanksgiving I must have read it to him 30 times. The illustrations are so colorful and the verse is easy for little ones. I love children's books and I am also passionate about music education! I am "the music lady" at one of our local elementary schools. A kindred spirit!

  9. Planes flying can be indeed an amazing sight for children. I don't remember wanting to fly as a kid. Now that I'm older I'm actually torn between pursuing flying lessons or PhD (both expensive :(

Alan Rickman, yes. I no longer dislike him since I saw how cute he was in Austen's Sense and Sensibility :)
