Fishy CDs and Books

For a Father's Day gift from the boys, together my grandsons and I crafted a fish cd! Afterwards we researched 21+ Brilliant DIY Ideas on How To Recycle Your Old CDs. Of course, we felt like beginners with our accomplishments but it's not about comparing and we definitely had oodles of fun.

We used whatever we could find around the house... Mostly, foam and press on stickers or glued down some jewel sequences. What ideas have you used for your old CDs?

Reindeer and Moose

Reindeer Candy Cane

This coming Thursday is our Christmas Kindergarten Music Class Performance! Our five year olds will be singing their songs, along with playing their rhythm sticks. Also, the hand bell choir will be performing and later on we will be handing out scarfs that the children made themselves to the sweet folks who are in the nursing facility.

Reindeer and Chocolate Pretzels

The candy cane reindeer are so easy to make. Just wrap one brown pipe cleaner for its antlers. Hot glue those eyes and large pom poms. I used what I had, so this year Rudolph's nose is quite small!

Meet Music Mouse

Mr. Music Mouse or Miss Music Mouse, if you please!

This week at Anny's Kindergarten, we are learning eighth notes. I thought the children would enjoy shaking their homemade tambourines to the rhythm! Aren't they adorable?! I got the idea from Mom to 2 Posh Lil Divas and decided to tweak it a little. I'll be teaching the kids about running notes!

How To

I happened to have some medium size letter templates on hand. I prefer the smaller size plates because of the size of the children's hands. Once I traced the M onto the foam plate, I took off with blue paint. Decorating the mouse was easy and in no time I had created 10 tambourines for music class.

2 small foam paper plates
2 small eyes
2 foam ears
1 pom pom for nose
2 pipe cleaners for whiskers (I drew whiskers)
The letter M
Bottle of paint, any color

What's Inside?

I added a handful of soybeans to place in the middle of my small foam plate before I would staple down the two plates. I found that the less beans you use, actually the sound gets louder! I have seen others punch holds and lace yarn through the holes to create that cool, tail effect.

How To Make Princess Crowns and Tiaras

As Britain's own Prince William marries this Friday, the world will be watching a truly happy beginning come to life. Read the poem that UK Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy, who authored The Gift, wrote for the Royal Wedding here.

With princes and princesses on many people's minds, I can't help but share some of Barefoot Books favorite royal stories:

How to Make Felt Squares for Baby

Here's what the squares can look like. Endless possibilities, really.

Felt is a type of cloth. It is made by soaking fibres in water and then compressing them together. It was commonly used before people knew how to weave.
