Reading Monster: Dino Tales

Photo Edit of Reading Monster

Here's my photo shop contribution for Coloring Page Tuesdays

I started with the image below drawn by Elizabeth Dulemba. This is so cute with the dinosaur reading a dino tale upon a stack of books! My 4 grandson's are happy campers with this inspiring image to encourage reading!

Then I added some nature texture, like these green leaves with multiply layer. The finished product was adding a radiant shine layer in the first photo.

There's a celebration going on right now... It's Picture Book Month for November. On the calendar is "Heidiey Stemple - Dinosaurs." For more information, visit Heidiey Stemple's Bio. I'm not familiar with the author but I do know Barefoot Books favors dinosaurs and here are some of my former posts on the subject.

1. Dino Island

2. Meeting The Blue Dino

3. Dragons and Monsters

4. I Dreamt I Was A Dinosaur

By the way, I was featured at Dulemba ColoringPages! A special thanks to a very talented illustrator/author Elizabeth Dulemba for choosing the photo shop "Reading Fox."

Happy Reading!

Dino Island

Lego Dinosaur

Legoland Hotel

Legoland at Carlsbad, California

My husband and I decided to treat our 5 year old grandson (and ourselves) to a trip to Carlsbad, California at Legoland... Wow, what an amusement park!! Have you been there? Well, we pretty much spent the entire day visiting the different 'land themes' and going on most of the rides. Yes, it's tons of fun and a dream come true for Ryan graduating from Preschool and heading to Kindergarten this Fall. One thing for sure, it's very pricey. I'm not sure how young families can afford it, but if you plan for it and save your money all year long, the park has great rewards for summer fun and family memories.

My photos are for Blue Monday and since I took a whole bunch of pictures, I'd like to share some with you over the next few weeks... and if you're looking for some dinosaur books, here's a few in our library that we enjoy reading together.

For  Mandarin Orange Monday, I used an orange texture and color boost to the same above cropped photo with some editing for this meme.

Thinking of you and wishing all of you a Happy 4th of July!

Meeting the Blue Dino

My grandson received a lovely package in the mail from his "Auntie Anna." Oh my, what a hit the dinosaurs are! Do you have any similar toys like these around your house? I was thinking about how everyone would be posting such beautiful bunny photos and here I am with an unusual dino theme before Easter. My only excuse is that I've been super busy preparing 5 Easter baskets for the grandchildren and enjoying myself immensely in the process. This is my favorite season of celebration!

My Review

Easy to read, Animals, Educational, Colorful, Bedtime, Great illustrations, earth sciences, prehistoric times.

If you're looking for an adorable book for preschoolers, I found it for you! I have enjoyed reading I Dreamt I Was A Dinosaur to my 13 month old Grandson. This adorable book takes you on a journey to dinosaur land. Which one would you like to be? I was familiar with many types of dinosaurs except for a new one, Parasaurolophus. Throughout the book, the illustrator Clare Beaton, will delight you with her fabric creations. The volcano with the sequins for lava is especially creative.
Author, Stella Blackstone continues to impress me with her rhyme writing style. Toddlers and preschoolers will safely land in bed to find "it was only a dream!" What I especially love with this particular book is that there is a surprise cleverly woven throughout each page!

Review: Thesaurus Rex by Laya Steinberg

Today was a good day at the Farmer's Market! The sun greeted me early this a.m. with a promise that it would be 1 degree cooler! lol I met some new friends from the beach area who stopped by our local Farmer's Market!

What a beautiful Mom and oh so cute baby boy... and I got to hold him, such joy! And you know that kind of smile... when he smiles at me, the sun comes out and you feel like you've been to the moon and back!

In spite of warm temperatures, folks were shopping for vegetables and hummus dips and yes, of course, Barefoot Books! One particular favorite with boys ages 3-7 is Thesaurus Rex!

Thesaurus Rex
Follow this mischievous dinosaur as he frolics, rollicks, frisks and romps. Each colorful page introduces simple synonyms and a fun-filled way to build vocabulary and word recognition.

Ages 3 to 7 years

My Review:

Thesaurus Rex is a happy blue spotted dinosaur in colorful pants. He frolics, rollicks, frisks and romps. He, hunts, searches, forages and pokes. I love the use of synonyms throughout the story. Repeated readings do help to get younger kids to use repeated words in their regular vocabulary. Thesaurus Rex is easy to read, full of animals and very educational. The illustrations by Debbie Harter are great and so colorful. I particularly love watching little ones stop by and see the joy as their mom's read this delightful paperback book for $6.99 You can order it at my market place:

In this playful early-learning book, Stella Blackstone's lyrical, rhyming text takes readers on an unforgettable Jurassic journey, while fabric artist Clare Beaton recreates the prehistoric world of dinosaurs using a colorful array of felt, sequins, beads and buttons.
