Bagging Books

book bags for school fundraisers

I was wrapping up a book school fundraiser last May and forgot I had these photos. It's always exciting to see tons of books around your living room and then to dive into the work ahead of bagging up all the individual orders and delivering them to the school where the book fair was held. I originally signed up with Barefoot Books as an ambassador to be on my daughter's team, to help support her as a team leader. She is doing very well on the East Coast while I've pretty much retired from selling Barefoot Books. I enjoy reading children's books to my grandchildren, and I'm writing my own stories. I've enjoyed the journey, meeting sweet families at farmer's markets and going to public , private and Montessori schools. Thanks so much for your support through the years and remember, you can always order these beautiful books through my daughter at www.BarefootBookNook.com or through my Amazon links as an affiliate.

I'm a huge fan of author, Jane Yolen. Have you read any of her books and if so, do you have a favorite?

The Animal Boogie is an awesome book, combined with a very catchy song, it's a huge winner with toddlers and pre-schoolers. If you have the time, you might be interested in the video on YouTube. Join in with the singalong.

The World Atlas has been so popular in the schools, home school and family libraries. They also have the app for iPads that is awesome.

While we were in full production with the book distribution, we paused our work for a delicious snack, our very own persimmons. The Fuji persimmons are crispy like an apple, while the other type are much larger in size and mushy inside when ripe like jelly. Yummy!

Around The Pumpkin Farm

November skies in SoCal continue to be clear and bright with slightly cooler temperatures. Bates Nut Farm is located in Valley Center, California.

bumpy pumpkins
I've never seen "bumpy" pumpkins before. They remind me of some type of gourd with their rough outer appearance.

I remember many, many years ago when the children were little ones, we made pumpkin pies from scratch.
Have you tried it before? I'll use the canned pumpkin for my pies again this year, it's easy.

After much contemplation, the little one twirled around and headed up the grove road for lunch. Flora loves wearing her striped leggings with just about everything.

We had a little bite to eat before nap time. I think it's funny that my grandkids love Mexican food but it does please me to see them eat rice and beans, enchiladas and of course, chips and avocado. While waiting for the tangerines to ripen, we sampled the last of our delicious pears.

Afterward, we went outdoors for some fresh air and to water the Clivias.

I love getting together with family and friends and doing what most people love to do, which is eat. I can enjoy the food. I can enjoy my family and focus on giving thanks.

The Rainbow Lorikeet, (Trichoglossus haematodus) is a species of Australasian parrot found in Australia, eastern Indonesia (Maluku and Western New Guinea), Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. In Australia, it is common along the eastern seaboard, from Queensland to South Australia and northwest Tasmania. Its habitat is rainforest, coastal bush and woodland areas. For more information, visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbow_Lorikeet

These colorful parrots feed on nectar of various blossoms and soft fruits, preferably berries. Here at the San Diego Safari Park my family loved feeding the Rainbow Lorikeet. You can purchase a cup of nectar and experience their brush-like tongue from these very social birds. For more information, visit Lorikeet Landing. The photos of these very friendly birds are for Blue Monday.

We came home with so many fond memories and then sat down to enjoy some crab salad and dragon fruit salad with orange persimmons from our fruit orchard. I love this time of year where we continue to eat from the abundance of the land. Photos for Mandarin Orange Monday. I think the plant is Mock Orange Blossoms, not really sure but they are pretty with the elongated shape.
