Board Books and Babywearing Week!

I saw this funny cartoon on FaceBook and laughed aloud! Can anyone relate? :=)

I think one of the solutions to tearing pages in children's books, especially picture books), is for young ones to have Board Books! These are great for babies, ages 1-2 and 3-4. They are comfy and just the right size for little hands to hold.

What is a board book?

A board book is a type of book that is published on hard cardboard. This cardboard, sometimes it seems like heavy card stock, is used for the cover as well as the pages. It is made to be more durable than paper pages. Trust me on this, having two Grandsons, board books are the way to go! These board books are intended for small children to use and play with.

One of my favorite board books is "How Big Is A Pig?"
Ages 4-7 can read the book alone, while ages 0-4 read together. This particular board book has 24 pages with full color illustrations.

The author of "How Big Is A Pig?" is Stella Blackstone. She lives in southwest England and writes poetry as well. I believe Stella Blackstone has written around 18 other board books for Barefoot Books.

This particular board book, "How Big Is A Pig?" is illustrated by Clare Beaton. Clare has nearly 50 books published. Several of her books that I love that are in my personal library are Elusive Moose and There's a Cow in the Cabbage Patch.

"How Big Is A Pig?" introduces youngsters to all kinds of opposites. You'll enjoy reading about walking along the farmyard trails, meeting all kinds of animals. Then there's a special surprise at the end! Did I tell you the pages to board books are glossy and clean up easily?! And yes, Publishers Weekly wrote a great review. How Big Is A Pig received awards and honors IRA-CBC Children's Choice, 2001.
